Traffic Rules doesn’t RULE anymore?

22/11/2011 09:01

Delhi, capital of India, is spread over an area of 1483 sq. kilometers. City is  fast growing  & so is its population. Life is fast . Everybody is in a hurry. And why not ? Short distances takes long time & long distances of course even longer. Everyone wants to be first not just in careers but also in driving.

Let us think about the first day when you drove a vehicle e.g. car. The focus was on gears, clutch, and break & of course on Road and rules. Slowly & steadily you get used to it & once you are, you do not think about changing the gear because now your reflexes do it. Still later you loose focus on many of those functions because practice has made you used to it. Traffic rules become the first casualty. Slowly they are forgotten, avoided, neglected & sometimes broken deliberately.

Traffic rules do not rule anymore. Not at least in the minds of those who drive now a days.

Speed limit is now limited to vehicles stuck in jams. Zig zag driving is a new trend. Indicators are used sparingly as if it is taxed. Lanes are being considered as just a design. Following lane has become pain. Horns have become background music. Required or not, drivers just love it.

People claim that bad roads, lack of sign boards, faulty signal lights are all governments failure. At the same time they fail to accept their unavoidable contribution in the traffic jams & accidents.

What surprises me is the courage, guts & fearless attitude of those responsible citizens who fail to avoid risking lives of people riding other vehicles. More surprising is the fact that they risk their own lives too. They forget that they are not just risking their lives but also as parents, they are risking future of their children and setting bad precedence. As children, they are risking happiness of their parents.  Implications are clearly ominous.

There is urgent need to curb such bad practices more importantly before it becoming an alarming issue.

Let us drive the message of safe driving not just in DELHI but everywhere.

Wish all the people sitting on driver’s seat say DIL-hi nahi todega traffic rules.
